As you can imagine, Disc Jockey Services come in all shapes, sizes, experience levels etc...When choosing the service that is best suited to your needs, there are a few things that you should keep in mind. Here are a few questions you may wish to ask of a prospective disc jockey service.

Will you actually perform at our affair, or do you send someone else that we may be unfamiliar with?

Steve does not sub-contract any other entertainers to work for him. When you hire Steve you always get Steve Moody himself.

Do you do this on a regular basis, or is your disc jockey business merely a hobby that you do every once in a while?

Steve Moody has been a "full-time" disc jockey since 1989, making the business his livelihood. He currently entertains 4-5 nights each and every week.

Did you have any sort of training before you up and decided to become a DJ?

Steve earned a Bachelor's Degree in Communications from Towson University. He has extensive training in public speaking, music, theatre, radio broadcasting, and public relations. In addition, he has honed in on his presentational skills during his time spent on-air at WPOC, WCEI, and of course, over his time spent as a full time mobile D.J.

Do you use professional equipment or are you using a "mix-matched" sound system that is not really meant to be used in a professional manner?

Steve only uses "top-of-the-line", name brand, sound and lighting such as EV Powered Speakers and Martin Intelligent Lighting. For more information check out the section of the site dedicated to the sound system.

I have been to events where the disc jockey seemed to be playing scratchy old records that skipped some times and had that crackle and pop sound. What kind of medium is your music on?

All of Steve's music is taken directly from Compact Disc, and transferred into his computer system. It is an exact digital copy, and the best sound available. He uses a computer program called PCDJ to play his music.

What happens if you blow a speaker or something...do you carry back up equipment?

Steve not only carries back up speakers...but a full back up sound system, which is kept in the trailer. To this point he has never had to use it because he uses these top name brands that are more reliable. But, the equipment is there, just in case.

Do you play requests? I only ask because I have seen Dee Jays play songs that were completely in-appropriate. It was just like they were only playing the songs that they wanted to hear.

Your special event is tailored to your needs. Steve sends out a request packet when you book his service, and also takes (appropriate) requests during your affair. By carefully combining your requests, along with selections that Steve has learned (over the past 15 years) are sure to fill the floor...your event is a guaranteed success.

I have been to events where the disc jockey seemed to be uncomfortable making special announcements. Do you also M.C.?

Steve will not only M.C. your event, but will also keep you updated and informed as your special event progresses. Steve uses his years of experience to help maintain a constant form of forward motion throughout your event. There is no "down time" in between activities where your affair could lose it's momentum. Steve remains in contact with you throughout your event in order to keep you aware of all activities. You will never be caught off guard.

We will have many different ages of guests at our event...do you have enough songs in your musical library in order to honor all of our requests?

Steve carries over 100,000 selections in all styles of music. Check out the section on this web-site that is devoted to his musical library.

How involved to you get at events... and how do you present yourself?

Steve always tries to present himself in a personable, yet professional manner. There is nothing wrong with a little bit of class right??? You will not see him wearing any "whacky get-ups" that would be completely in appropriate for your formal affair. Nor will he get on the microphone and tell lousy joke after lousy joke. However, if the crowd needs to be motivated in order to hit the floor, Steve will surely come to the rescue in a very positive and professional manner. Every party is different. Steve can be as conservative or as "out-going" as you and your guests dictate.

I have heard horror stories about dee jays backing out of "word of mouth" agreements, or just not showing up. Do you use a formal contract?

Steve sends out two copies of a contract with every booking package. One for you and one for him, that way you each have something in hand, agreeing to the terms. It is not a stuffy over legalized contract, that you would need the education of a lawyer to understand...it is just a basic agreement. Steve's name is on the dotted line.

What happens if you get sick...do you have back up?

Because of Steve's professionalism and willingness to help out other services over the years, he has made many talented friends in the business. Since beginning his disc jockey business in 1989 Steve has never had to cancel out on a job...but rest assured that if an emergency were to arise a more than suitable replacement would be on hand to help out, AND STEVE WOULD WAVE THE REMAINING BALANCE OF YOUR CONTRACT, by paying the other performer from his own pocket. Not a bad deal!!!! There are many services out there and Steve is very happy to have made such wonderful and talented friends that perform with the same quality standard as he holds himself to.
